SURGOINSVILLE – Mrs. Viola M Gilreath Anderson, age 60, of 1941 Carters Valley Rd., Surgoinsville passed away Thursday, August 19, 2004 at the Duke University Hospital following an extended illness. Well done my good and faithful servant. You have fought a good fight, you have kept the faith, I know you as my child, enter in. I imagine these were the words heard by Viola Anderson on August 19, 2004, as she was welcomed into the gates of heaven with open arms by the Lord.

What a reunion was had as she met friends and loving family who had gone on before: Her parents, Holly and Ola Lafollette Gilreath; a sister, Mary Smith and a brother-In-Law, Bob Hammond.

Viola was loved and cared for by her husband of 42 years Joe L. Anderson. Along with many wonderful years together they were blessed with 3 children and 1 grandson, who was the apple of his Mammaw Viola's eye. Their oldest son, Sgt. Tony Anderson, currently serving with the National Guard unit 2/278 ACR preparing for deployment to Kuwait from Camp Shelby, Mississippi, his loving wife Kim (Parker) Anderson and their son Jesse of Surgoinsville; Gary and wife Melissa (Hill) Anderson, loving son and daughter-in-law of Newton, North Carolina, and Rebecca Anderson of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Bob (Virginia) Hammond and Dotty Mae Gilreath of Surgoinsville; 4 brothers, Tom Gilreath of Church Hill, Lenard Gilreath of Martinsburg, West Virginia, Ken Gilreath of Etowah, Tn. and Dana Gilreath of Kingsport.

Viola was saved many years ago and spent her life encouraging others and sharing her love of the Lord. She taught Sunday school for many years at Oak Dale Baptist Church in Surgoinsville and attended Freedom Baptist Church prior to her illness. She was retired as the Cafeteria Manager at Volunteer High school where she had many friends in both the students and Faculty. It was Viola's goal in life to share the story of Salvation and the gift of eternal life with everyone she met. During her final days on earth, she expressed the strong desire to make sure her family would be meeting her in heaven someday. She would say "Don't shed a tear for me when I'm gone. I'll be walking on the Streets of gold, enjoying the beauties of heaven while rejoicing in the presence of the Lord. Her longing was not for worldly possessions or fame, but her heart was set on all that heaven holds.
