"Dora was my 1st cousin, three times removed. She had connections to more than one of my ancestral lines; and her migration to various communities in Trumbull, Ashtabula and Geauga Counties, Ohio, created some coincidental links to my husband's ancestors and their friends.
"In the 1910 Census for Mecca Twp., Trumbull Co OH, David and Dora Peterson were listed in the household next to that of Albert and Martha Baldwin and their children Bernice (17), George (16), and Betty (4).
"In the 1920 Census for Gustavus Twp., Trumbull Co OH, David and Dora were listed in the household next to that of Noble Middleton, on the Barclay-Gardner Road (now Gardner-Barclay). Just across the township line, in Greene Twp., was the next farm - where my husband Alan was born. In 1920, it belonged to Alan's grandparents.
"On my side of the family, Dora was loosely connected by marriage to my great-grandfather's sister, Lucy White, of Middlefield. Lucy was married for a brief time (1898 to abt 1900/1903) to Zebina Marsh, the first husband of Dora's daughter Susie Anna Alderman. There was, however, an even closer connection. We share a common ancestor whose roots have eluded me for many years. Dora was the daughter of Joseph Smith and Melissa Arvilla Scott. Melissa was the sister of my great-great-grandmother Mary Ann (Scott) Hughes of Huntsburg, and their parents were Joseph Scott and Mary "Polly" (Faunce) Scott. After the death of her first husband, Polly married Joseph Smith's father, Samuel Davies Smith."
