Lorna Marie Abeyta

Lorna Marie Abeyta, 90 of Gering, passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012 at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Gerald Harr officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery. A vigil service will be Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the chapel. Memorials may be given to the Volunteer Program at Regional West Medical Center. Lorna was born on Sept. 2, 1921 in Arapahoe, Neb. to Albert and Rose (Haney) Schieber. She married Harold Nordquist. He passed away October of 1969. She later married Tom Abeyta and he passed away September of 2004. She worked at Swift for 19 years and also was an owner of a liquor store. Lorna spent most of her adult life residing in the Gering and Bayard area. She enjoyed needlework, sewing, reading, gardening and family activities. Lorna volunteered at Regional West Medical Center and was a member and officer with the Eastern Star for numerous years.
Survivors include her son, Van Nordquist, eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Preceding Lorna in death was her husbands Harold "Nordy" Nordquist and Tom Abeyta; son, Eugene Nordquist; daughter, Robin Gaddis and daughter-in-law, Mary Nordquist.
