RUFUS P. ACOSTA, 90, a resident of Hurley, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at the Silver City Care Center.

Visitati on will begin at 5 pm on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at Baca's Funeral Chapels followed by the prayer vigil beginning at 6 pm led by Fr. Dan Porter. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, August 24, 2007 at Infant Jesus Catholic Church with Fr. Dan Porter officiating. The rite of committal and interment will follow at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery.

Mr. Acosta was born October 13, 1916 in Gila to Emilio and Octaviana (Porter) Acosta. He was a communicant of the Catholic Church, and enjoyed fishing, camping, and golfing. He enjoyed listening to music and dancing, and loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Sarah P. Acosta of the home; sons, Rufus Acosta and wife Martha of Hanford, CA, Rudy Acosta and wife Connie of Silver City, Arthur Acosta and wife Viola of Albuquerque, Anthony Acosta and wife Viola of Las Cruces, and Richard Acosta and wife LaNell of West Virginia; daughter, Cory Acosta and friend Terrie George of Las Cruces; brothers, Arnold Acosta and wife Rosalie of Grand Junction, CO, and Edward Acosta and companion Audrey Gonzales of Hurley; sisters, Octavia Kramer of Santa Ana, CA, and Clorinda Myers and husband Hector of Bayard. Also surviving him are 18 grandchildren, 31great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Olivia Rimbert, brother Alfonso Acosta, and sisters, Josephine Dominguez and Gloria Tarazon.

Pallbea rers for Mr. Acosta will be Mark and Ronnie Rimbert, Rudy, Gary, Art, and Anthony Acosta. Honorary pallbearers will be the rest of his grandsons and nephews.
