Abram M. Ehst, 98, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Bally, PA died on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.


He was the loving husband of the late Marian (Souder) Ehst for 2 years and the late Margaret B. (Moyer) Ehst for 69 years. Abram was born in Bally, PA to the late John L. Ehst and the late Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Mack) Ehst.


He worked as an electrician for Longacre Electric in Bally, PA. Abram was a self-employed dairy farmer at the Ehst Homestead Farm in Bally for 50 years, until retiring in 1997.


He was a longtime member of Bally Mennonite Church where he was a former Sunday school superintendent, an ordained deacon for 38 yrs and active in church visitation. Abram was also a recent member of the Franconia Mennonite Church.


He was a member of the former Lehigh Valley Cooperative Dairy Association and a former board member of Souderton Mennonite Homes.


Abram enjoyed traveling with his wife throughout the U.S. and Mexico. He loved nature and the environment. Abram enjoyed playing board games, especially dominos. Family was very important to him and he loved spending time with them. Abram was an avid reader of books, farm periodicals and read his Bible daily. He memorized scripture and would often recite passages by memory.


Abram was a caring and compassionate man who had a strong-mind, a loving presence and a deep faith. He was always gracious and self disciplined.


Abram is survived by two daughters, Doris Miller & husband, John of Lancaster, PA, Rhoda Ehst-Koch of Souderton, PA; three sons, John Ehst & wife, Beverly of Harleysville, PA, Kenneth Ehst & wife, Elizabeth Anne of Bally, PA, Timothy Ehst & wife, Sheryl of Bally, PA; eleven grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren and a sister, Mary Derstine of Souderton, PA.


In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Karl Koch; three brothers, Jesse, Paul & Titus Ehst; a sister, Lois Stoltzfus and a brother-in-law, Alvin Derstine.



A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 W. Summit Street, Souderton, Pennsylvania 18964 from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm.


A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Souderton Mennonite Homes from 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm.


Burial will take place on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Bally Mennonite Cemetery.
