Deceased Name: Robert P. McCord

DECATUR - Robert P. McCord, 93, of Decatur, passed away at 2:14 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2011 at Imboden Creek Living Center.

Mass of the Resurrection to celebrate Robert's life will be 11:15 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2011 at St. Patrick Church, 407 E. Eldorado, with Father Jeff Grant, Celebrant. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2011 with military honors in St. Isidore Cemetery in Bethany. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Imboden Creek Living Center. Moran & Goebel Funeral Home is assisting the family with these arrangements.

Mr. McCord was born June 6, 1917 in Bethany, Illinois, the son of James Arthur and Cora (Jackson) McCord. He married Alice McNamee in The Church of the Sacred Heart in Bideford, England on April 10, 1944. He was a member of the class of 1935 at Bethany High School. He received his Bachelors Degree at Millikin University in 1950, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi. He received his Masters Degree from the University of Illinois.

During W.W. II, Mr. McCord served in the Army as part of the 107th Ordnance Co. with the rank of Corporal. He served in England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany as part of the 9th Army and saw action during the Battle of the Bulge. He met his Irish born wife in England where she was working as a nurse. They married before he was deployed to the continent.

Mr. McCord taught at Johns Hill Junior High School from 1950 until retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Decatur Education Association, IEA, NEA, Millikin Alumni Association, Sts. James and Patrick Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his daughters,
Mary T. Briggs and husband Stephen of Decatur and Patricia M. File and husband David of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, sons, Michael S. McCord and wife Lori of Little Canada, Minnesota, and G. Patrick McCord and wife Lisa of Crystal Lake, Illinois, twelve grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Alice, his parents, one brother, and three sisters.

Robert "Bob" McCord was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a dedicated educator and role model for his children and grandchildren. He loved books and a good conversation. His journey in this life was rich, interesting, and blessed as was that of those who knew and loved him. He is with his beloved Alice now who he met by chance and cherished for a lifetime.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Imboden Creek Living Center for all of their loving, compassionate care.
