Memorial Service for Harold S. Ellis Will Be Held Today--A memorial service will be held today at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 8, 1997, at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, Missouri for Harold S. Ellis of Blue Springs, Missouri, formerly of Jefferson City, Missouri. The Rev. Kenneth Locke of Jefferson City will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from noon until time of the service.
Mr. Ellis died Wednesday, October 1, 1997, at his home in Blue Springs, Missouri. He was 79 years old.
Harold Stanley Ellis was born January 3, 1918, at High Hill, MO, the son of the late Luther Dennis and Beulah Ella Bryant Ellis.
He served in CC camp in 1939. He was a veteran of World War II. He served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1945, with action in the European Theater. Mr. Ellis worked from 1951 until 1964 for the Mr. Freshee Bread Company in Jefferson City, MO. He then worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation from 1964 until his retirement in 1980. He was one of the foremost collectors of Americana memorabilia in Missouri and the mid-west. He was an adult lifetime member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Jefferson City, MO.
Mr. Ellis is survived by four children; Brenda Bulyar of Boca Raton, Florida, Beverly Rose and her husband Bob, and Jerry Ellis, all of Blue Springs, Mo, and David Ellis and his wife Jeanine, of Lee's Summit, Mo. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Adam Bulyar, Jeff Workman, Dawn Lansing, Julie Hayes, and Amber Ellis; and four great-grandchildren; Kyle and Reagan Lansing and Loran and Vince Hayes.
Other survivors include six sisters and two brothers; Hazel Dyke of St. Petersburg, Florida; Warren Ellis and his wife, Joan of Mexico, MO; Vaurien Saak and her husband, Walter, and Cornelia Davey and her husband Gale, all of Wellsvile, MO, Iola Carlock and her husband Terry of the State of California, Zelma McKenzie and her husband, Bob of Dallas, Texas, Leslie Ellis and his wife, Lois of Abilene, Texas and Lora Dene Riddle and her husband Tom, of Montgomery City, MO.
Mr. Ellis was cremated and private interment of his ashes will be in the New Florence Cemetery in New Florence, Missoui.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice Care of St. Mary's, 201 West R.D. Mize Rd, Blue Springs, MO 64014."
