FORT OGLETHORPE, GA - Lessie Bowen Rucks, 90, died Sunday, January 29, 2012.
Mrs. Rucks was a native of Alabama and a longtime resident of Fort Oglethorpe, GA.
Mrs. Rucks attended the East Ridge Church of God (now The Crossing) for many years. She was a dedicated Christian and believer in the power of prayer.
Mrs. Rucks felt that God blessed her with a good husband and eight children and with the ability to be a skilled homemaker, gardener, and seamstress so that she could help provide for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband , Glenn O. Rucks; a daughter, Judy Ann Rucks; her parents, John D. and Jimmie Bowen, five brothers, R. D. Bowen, John Bowen, Vancel Bowen, Roy Lee Bowen and Jimmy Lee Bowen; and two sisters, Dee Mae Guffey and Louise Odom.
She is survived by eight children, Ruby (Ernest) Reed, of Ringgold, GA, Mary Clark and Glenda Rucks, of Chattanooga, TN, Roy (Marcia) Rucks, of Duluth, GA, John (Ellen) Rucks, of Navarre, FL, Ray (Sunaun) Rucks, of Clermont, FL, Clara (Louis) Orlando, of Marietta, GA, and Martha (Sam) Scarbrough, of Phil Campbell, AL; four brothers, Dennis, Billy, Millard and Walter Bowen, of Rainsville, AL; four sisters, Eurtis White, of West Brow, GA, and Fairy White, Annie Bell Hicks and Mary Jim Yates, of Rainsville, AL; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Terry Harris officiating.
Interment in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory.
