DEATH OF A. D. THURSTON
Andrew D. Thurston, of Paris, Mo., a former well known resident of Marion county, died at 11:30 o'clock Saturday morning, June 16, while at the wheel of his car. Mr. Thurston, accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. Delmar Fisher, on his milk route that morning, stopping at the home of customers to deliver milk. Mrs. Fisher had taken milk to the home of a customer and when she returned to the car found her father slumped over the steering wheel. A physician pronounced him dead, evidently from a heart attack.
Mr. Thurston, who was 68 years old, lived at the west edge of Palmyra for a number of years where he established a heard of Guernsey cattle. While living here he was prominent in civic affairs and made many warm friends in this section who will be grieved to hear of his death. While living here he was very active in the activities of the Marion County Farm Bureau.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 18, at the Speed & Blakey funeral home in Paris, conducted by the Rev. B. L. Holcomb, a former pastor of the Palmyra Methodist church and now pastor at Salisbury, Mo. Burial was in Walnut Grove cemetery in Paris.
Mr. Thurston is survived by his widow, Mrs. Clara Maude Thurston, two daughters, Mrs. Lon James and Mrs. Delmar Fisher, of Paris, two brothers, Lloyd Thurston, of Madison, and Clyde Thurston, of Stockton, Calif.
A number from Palmyra and vicinity attended the funeral in Paris, including Miss Estelle Dusenberry, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schluckebier and family; and Mr. and Mrs. Emette Schluckebier and family; Mrs. John Schlukebier, John Vogt, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Frankenbach, Mr. and Mrs. William Frankenbach.
While a resident of Marion county Mr. Thurston also lived in the West Ely, vicinity for a time.
