Stella Elizabeth (Baney) Walker, 96, a resident of Epworth Manor, Tyrone, since March 2004 and formerly of Warriors Mark, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday.

She was born in Brookes Mills, daughter of Clyde W. and Emma (Snare) Baney. She married Charles G. Walker on April 25, 1937, in Pine Grove Mills, and he preceded her in death on March 28, 1984.

Surviving are three sons: Merrill L. and wife, Gloria, of Bedford, Va., Robert G. and wife, Karen, of Spruce Creek and Larry R. and wife, Peggy, of Brooksville, Fla.; six grandchildren: Sherry (Walker) Thacker, Shelly (Walker) Ore, Lisa (Walker) Spotts, Kevin Walker, Dave Walker and Charlie Walker; four great-grandchildren: Lance and Kyle Spotts, Lacey (Walker) Bryan and Shane Walker; and a great-great-grandson, Gannon Bryan.

She had nine siblings, all of whom preceded her in death: John, Abe, infant Roy, Ernie, Jim, Clair and George Baney, Mary (Baney) Walker and Jean (Baney) Summers.

Stella was raised on the Baney family truck farm in Frogtown, Huntingdon County, and was a 1934 graduate of Warriors Mark High School. After raising her own family, she worked at the Warriors Mark School cafeteria and later at Murata Erie Manufacturing, State College, until retirement in 1978. She was a lifetime member of Warriors Mark United Methodist Church, working actively for many years within the church body.

Stella was locally famous for her baking, which she often shared with the Warriors Mark community, especially her raisin-filled cookies and pies. She was talented at making quilts and crocheting doilies and afghans. She always enjoyed family gatherings at her home and took pleasure in cooking and serving delicious meals.

Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. today and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at Bruce E. Cox Funeral Home, Warriors Mark, Joan Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Burket Cemetery.
