A. L. FREELAND, SHELBINA, DIES AT AGE OF 89
Shelbina, Mo., Feb. 25. — A. L. Freeland, 89, died in his home here Sunday night at 6:10 o'clock following several months of illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church with the Rev. C. S. Peacock officiating. Masonic lodge members will be pallbearers and burial will be in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.
Mr. Freeland was born at Blandinsville, Ill., Aug. 28, 1851, the son of Mr. and Mrs Francis Freeland. At the age of 15, he moved to a farm north of Hunnewell. He was married to Miss Emma Holliday, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Freeland was active in the Republican party and in 1896 was a delegate to the national convention in St. Louis when William McKinley was nominated for the presidency. In 1885 Mr. Freeland opened a store in Lakenan. He taught rural schools in this locality 15 years and served 20 years as postmaster at Lakenan. He was a member of the Masonic lodge for 64 years and was the oldest member of the Shelbina Methodist church.
His only daughter, Mrs. Julia Byars, a school teacher in this vicinity 22 years, died last October. Surviving are two grandsons, Lynn Byars of Shelbina and Freeland Byars of Denver, Colo.
