He graduated from Lake Odessa High School in 1944 with honors. He was a WW II veteran of the Army.
Wayne married Barbara Lakin August 16, 1951. She preceded him in death February 24, 2005. He went on to marry Ann December 26, 2007.
He was a life long area resident, Berlin Twp. Treasurer and member of Berlin Center Church and Berlin Center Grange. He was an avid gardener, who had wonderful flower gardens around his home.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife Ann Sherwood of Ionia; children, Yolanda Blissett of Ionia, Brian (Jean) Sherwood of Colorado, Bradford Sherwood of Maine and Thomas (Johnette) Sherwood of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Frank Blissett, Elizabeth (Robert) Ralston, Stephanie (Norman) Rivers, Jeremy (Shelly) Sherwood, Isaac Sherwood, Noah Sherwood, Abigail Sherwood, Josey Sherwood, Yoeldavid Sherwood, Calista (Jared) Doty and Andrew Sherwood and one great grandson Adrian Sherwood.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents and sisters, Margaret, Joyce and Harriet.
Funeral services were held Thursday, at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Pastor Den Slattery officiating.
