Vern C. Burris
Vern C. Burris, 83, 1831 S. Pomegranite St., former printer, died Tuesday in a Sioux City hospital after a short illness.
Services were Friday in Morningside Presbyterian church. The Rev. Arthur K. Beumier officiated. Burial was in Graceland Park Cemetery.
Mr. Burris was born Oct. 9, 1901, at Sheldon, Iowa, and was raised in Decatur, Ill. He moved to Sioux City at the age of 14.
He married Olive Fay Darville Nov. 4, 1922, at Elk Point, S. D. She died in 1926. He married Ethel Laura Darville April 7, 1928, in Sioux City. He worked for 42 years as a printer at various printing companies including his own. He retired in 1961 from Perkins Brothers Printing Co. in Sioux City.
Mr. Burris was a member of the International Typographical Union and a member of Morningside Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Eldon of Sioux City; one daughter, Verna Ethel Jennings of Sioux City; two brothers, Vance and Merle Sr., both of Sioux City; four sisters, Mrs. Amber Darville, Mrs. Marguerite Ball, Mrs. Rosebud (Buddy) Whitten and Mrs. Erlzie Cook, all of Sioux City; five granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.
