Son of Royal and Ruby (Porter) Wales. Born 22 Jan 1810 in South Brimfield, MA. Spent early childhood in Coventry, CT. Married Mary Eliza Williams, 21 April 1833 in Brimfield, MA. Moved to Buffalo Grove, Ogle County, IL in 1836 with his father-in-law and wife's siblings also coming to Illinois. Opened a store in Buffalo Grove in 1836.
