Richard Akroyd Ashcroft was born in Beckerstaffe, Lancashire, England to Henry and Susan (Akroyd) Ashcroft. In June 1913 he married Ruth Dulin in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. Richard and Ruth had four children - James Alfred Ashcroft lived to adulthood. Three of Ruth & Richards children died in infancy: George Allan, Ruth Margaret, and Richard Jr...all three are buried in West Newton Cemetery and share a headstone with their parents.
