TUPELO - Reuben Max Farris Sr., 84, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. He was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Rienzi. He was a longtime resident of Tupelo. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was an alumnus of the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. He was a pharmacist for many years and the owner of Farris Pharmacy in Tupelo. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tupelo, and a longtime committee member and sponsor of Boy Scout Troop 12 at the church. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He worked with Boys State. He was the husband of the late Virginia Hall, who died Dec. 16, 2003.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Pruett officiating. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two children, Reuben M. Farris Jr., M.D., of Chulavista, Calif., and Timothy H. Farris, Ph.D., and wife, Angie, of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Reba Yoakum of Cuthbert, Ga.; five grandchildren, April B. Conrad of Corinth, Benjamin A. Farris and Jacob A. Farris, both of Chulavista, Calif., and Sarah J. Farris and Joshua A. Farris, both of Nashville, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Anna Conrad and William Conrad.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Jimmy Benefield; and one brother and four sisters.

Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Boy Scout Troop 12, American Legion, Boys State or Habitat for Humanity.
