Robert H. Brandau, 97, of Burlington, died at 5:10 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2012, at Great River Medical Center - Klein Center.
Born February 14, 1914 in Rudd, he was the son of Henry F. and Minnie R. Ahrens Brandau. On June 18, 1944 he married Fern E. Miller in Burlington. She preceded him in death on January 7, 2004.
Mr. Brandau was a Rudd High School and Iowa State University graduate. He was an agent for the Internal Revenue Service for 35 years.
Mr. Brandau was a very active member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as clerk of the session and was on two pastoral search committees. He was also a member of Patriot Masonic Lodge No. 650 AF&AM, Kiwanis, Lions, Burlington Golf Club, the Elks and Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. He served as treasurer of the Shining Trail Council of Girl Scouts for several years.
Mr. Brandau loved to golf and traveled throughout the United States and Europe. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and attended many games. He also enjoyed wintering in Winter Haven, Florida for 21 years.
Survivors include two daughters, LaDonna Putnam of Burlington and LaRee Godes of DeWitt; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Ploeger of Charles City and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers, Alvin, Edgar and Erwin and three sisters, Lillian, Leona and Katherine.
Friends may call after 8 a.m. Monday, January 30th, in Lunning Chapel and the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service.
The funeral service for Mr. Brandau will be 1 p.m. Monday, January 30th, in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Deb Kinney officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
