Caroline Coates Cleveland attended the Academy Street School and graduated from Watertown High School in June 1930 where in her junior year she was a member of the literary board of "The Owl" the high school paper. She was also a member of Tri-Y of the Girls' Reserve of the Y.W.C.A. and was active in its affairs having served on its cabinet. Following graduation from high school, she entered Syracuse University and graduated in June 1934 with a doctor of Library Science degree. While in college, Caroline was active in athletics. She became interested in rifle shooting and became an expert in that sport. in 1932 and 1933 she served as captain of the Syracuse University Women's Rifle Team and in both years she won the rifle championship trophy for the college. Miss Cleveland was in matches for Syracuse University with various college teams throughout the country. In 1932 and 1933 she was member of the athletic board of the Syracuse University. Miss Cleveland was also considered a good swimmer. She was affiliated with Gamma Phi Beta sorority of Syracuse University. Miss Cleveland became a junior assistant librarian at Syracuse University in October 1934. She succumbed to endocarditis on February 21, 1935 at her parents' home in Watertown, New York after being ill for four months. She is interred in Brookside Cemetery - Lakeside 1 in Watertown, New York with her mother and father, Grace E. Coates Cleveland and James V. Cleveland.
