Helen Louise (Waddell) LANDON
Born on August 7, 1917 in Spring Creek, North Carolina, the eldest of three daughters born to Hunter L. Waddell and Annie E. Kirkpatrick. Passed away peacefully on November 6, 2002 in Seattle after a long illness. Her family moved to Lyman, Washington in 1924, returned to North Carolina in 1925 and permanently settled in Lyman in 1927. She graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1936 and went to work as a receptionist and switchboard operator at Northern State Hospital. It was there in 1939 that she met her husband, Frank, who had taken over as director of the clinical laboratory. They were married on February 10, 1940 in Bellingham and moved to Seattle. She worked for the War and Community Chest and later settled down as a homemaker and mother. She belonged to the Seattle Milk Fund for many years and in 1947 became a charter member of the Margaret Carlile Fuller Circle. She was also active in Girl Scouts and was a former member of Sand Point Country Club and the Seattle Prep Mothers' Club. She enjoyed working with her hands and some of her favorite pastimes included gardening, crocheting and handcrafting gifts for her friends. She is survived by her husband, Frank J. Landon, of Seattle; her son, John W. Landon M.D., of Seattle; her son, William J. Landon Sr. and his wife, Jodi L., of Tacoma; her daughter, Marcia E. Landon, of Seattle; her grandchildren, William J. Jr., Jason C., Hunter L. and Serena N. Landon; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and their families. The family gratefully acknowledges the many physicians, nurses and other members of the health care community who looked after Mom throughout her illness, and extends heartfelt thanks to Jon S. Huseby M.D. for his many years of devoted care. Vigil Service, Tuesday, November 12th, at 7 p.m., and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, November 13th, at 10 a.m., both at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 8900 35th Avenue N.E., Seattle. A Reception will follow the Mass. Private Entombment at Calvary Cemetery, Seattle. Hoffner Fisher & Harvey The family suggests that memorials be made to the Seattle Milk Fund, 1033 N.
