Eddie Balzen, age 79, of Gatesville passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.


Graveside services will be 10:00AM, Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Mound Cemetery with Rev. Wray Nunn officiating.

Eddie Balzen was born on September 18, 1931 in Hondo, Texas to the late Oscar Balzen and Mary Lee Pierce Balzen.

He was raised in Hamilton, Texas. He served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954 in Germany.

He married Patsy Ruth Holland on November 20, 1954 in Hamilton, Texas. He worked in construction as a serviceman for Odell Geer and other companies.


Eddie liked to hunt and camp on the lake in his younger years. He loved to play 42, bingo and do his word search puzzles. He also loved to spend time with his grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Kincheloe.


Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Patsy Balzen; daughters, Marilynn Coalston and husband, William and Sandra Backstrom and husband, Roy; son, Terry Balzen and wife, Michele; sisters, Ruby Young of Dallas, Christina Fischer and husband, Bob of Childress, Peggy Morgeson and husband, Doug of Holland, and Lilly Hudson and husband, Ray of Hamilton; brothers, Archie Balzen and wife, Carolyn of Cisco, and Kenneth Balzen and wife, Carolyn of Hamilton; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
