CULPEPER - Evie B. Adams, 97, passed away on Jan. 15, 1995, at Culpeper Healthcare Center. She was a native of Albemarle County and a Peninsula resident for 63 years.

She was a member of the Margaret Whitman Chapter of the American War Mothers and served as state president and secretary, chapter president and had over 8,000 volunteer hours at Kecoughtan Veterans Administration. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Newport News, and the Dorcus Miller Sunday School Class. She was a 1921 graduate of Miller School, Charlottesville, Va.

She is survived by her daughter, Katherine A. Barbrey of Silver Spring, Md.; three sons, Earl J. Austin of Phoenix, Ariz., John E. Adams of Richmond, Va., and William T. Adams of Hampton, Va.; two stepdaughters, Gertrude Mason of Newport News and Bessie Tucker of Needles, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday in Greenlawn Memorial Park by Rev. Linwood Peterson of Langley Baptist Church.
