The Lane Funeral Homes Memorial Obituary:

Mr. Glenn "Pete" E. Ohl, 87, of Niles, Ohio passed away at 11:30 AM on Wednesday January 25, 2012 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Ohl was born on October 1, 1924 in Mineral Ridge, Ohio the son of William and Bertha (Byers) Ohl. Pete attended Mineral Ridge Schools and would go on to proudly serve our country in the United States Army as a Private First Class with the 1129 Military Police Company Aviation Detachment during World War II in the South Pacific Theater of Operations. His decorations and citations included the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and two bronze stars.

Following his honorable discharge, Pete would go on to work for United Foundry Engineering for over thirty five years as a truck driver and in the maintenance department before his retirement. He was a member of the Mineral Ridge V.F.W. # 4192 where he had served as Past Commander, and was a past member of the American Motorcycle Association and N.A.S.C.A.R. during its first several years. During his free time he enjoyed going flea marketing, working on old bicycles, and was a avid longtime N.A.S.C.A.R. fan.

He is survived by his son Daniel G. Ohl and his wife Cheryl of Kinsman, OH, his granddaughter Miranda Ohl of Youngstown, and by several nieces and nephews.

Pete was preceded in death by his wife the former Charlotte Difford whom he married on September 29, 1963, two brothers Harry Ohl and William Ohl Jr., and by his sister Doris Pershing.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday January 28, 2012 from 11:00AM until 12:30PM at the Lane Family Funeral Homes Niles Chapel at 415 Robbins Avenue in Niles, Ohio 44446. Funeral services will begin at 12:30PM to be followed by military honors provided by the Mineral Ridge V.F.W. Post #4192

Burial will take place with his wife and parents at Kerr Cemetery.
