Michael graduated from Malden High School in 1984 and entered the Naval Reserves. Throughout his short life, he had been a proud member of the New Hampshire Freemasons and Shriners and was Boss Clown named Yowza, who made a difference in the lives of so many children in the Shriner hospitals. He was also a Past Master of St. Marks Lodge in Derry NH.
Mike held various positions in law enforcement and security such as an armored car driver, a Massachusetts constable, a corporate security officer, and a personal protector, to name a few. For the past eight years Mike worked at the Merrimack County Correctional facility in Boscawen as a correctional supervisor, a Threat Group Coordinator, and a member of the Special Response Team.
He was predeceased by his infant son James Michael DeAvilla and his grandparents Leo and Effie McDonough of Seabrook NH.
Family members include his wife Susan Greenwood DeAvilla of Belmont NH; children Kacie and Joseph DeAvilla of Londonderry, Sarah Douglas of Florida, and Karyne and Kimberly Maines of Belmont NH; sister Jill Coakley of Woburn MA; nieces and nephews; and various friends from work and the Freemasons.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012, from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 North Main Street, Concord NH. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 27, 2012, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 274 Pleasant Street, Concord. Burial will follow at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord.
