James D. Bodine, 82, of Franklin, Indiana passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born March 4, 1929 in Covington, Indiana to Harry Eugene Bodine and Louise (Nebeker) Bodine. He married Lora E. (Cooper) Bodine on August 28, 1948 in Lafayette, Indiana; she preceded him in death on May 6, 2010.
He was a 1947 graduate of Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Indiana and attended Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana where he played baseball and was a member of Kappa Delta Rho. He was a former longtime member of Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church at Stones Crossing in Greenwood, Indiana and a member of Nineveh Christian Church in Nineveh, Indiana. In 1959 he helped organize the Center Grove Little League Program. He also had been a member of the Knights of Pythias. He enjoyed dancing, big band music, all kinds of sports, golfing, woodworking, and he was especially devoted to following all of his children's and grandchildren's sports activities and achievements. Jim Bodine retired in 1985 after 30 years at General Motors Allison Transmission in Indianapolis, Indiana as superintendent of production and control.
Survivors include two sons, Michael J. (Lana) Bodine of Martinsville, Indiana, and Fred E. Bodine of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Becky S. (Mark) Smart of Nineveh and Lisa A. (Scott) Enright of Carmel, Indiana; a sister, Sue (Chuck) Boltz of Greenwood, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Kristen M. Lovell (David) of Indianapolis, Annie L. (Anthony) Syers of Greenwood, Dayna R. Smart of Nineveh, Carmen M. Bodine of Indianapolis, Kayley A. Bodine of Martinsville, Andy S. Enright and Abbie L. Enright of Carmel; five great-grandchildren, Tatum Syers, Beau Syers, Finley Syers, Ryan Lovell, and Tyler Lovell. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lora E. (Cooper) Bodine, and half-brothers Robert Eugene Bodine and Martin Stanton "Bud" Bodine.
Dr. Bill Enright will conduct a service Monday, January 30, 2012 at 11A.M. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, Indiana. Friends may call Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 1 P.M. until 5 P.M. at the mortuary and Monday from 10 A.M. until service time. Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, Indiana.
