J. B. (Brock) O'Brien Dies February 7

J. B. (Brock) O'Brien of Shelbina, husband of the former Pearl Landrum of Hunnewell, died Friday morning, February 7, at the family home in Shelbina. He suffeered a paralytic stroke Saturday, February 1. He had been in ill health for several years.
Mr. O'Brien was married twice, his first wife, the former Lou Cleek, preceded him in death several years ago. They were parents of one son, Thomas O'Brien, of Shelbina who survives with the widow, Mrs. Pearl O'Brien. Other survivors include two grandsons, Thomas O'Brien Jr. and William O'Brien, also several grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral services were held for J. (Brock) O'Brien Monday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelbina with the Rev. Fr. Leo Buhman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Barkelew and Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Archie Reidmeyer, Bill O'Brien, Tom O'Brien Jr., Charles O'Brien, and Tom Williams.
Mr. O'Brien was born March 6, 1877, in Marion County, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel O'Brien, and spent most of his life in the Hunnewell community until 1935 when he move to Shelbina.
He was first married to Miss Lou Cleek, and they were the parents of one son, Thomas O'Brien who lives in Shelbina. Mrs. O'Brien died at their home north of Hunnewell several years ago, and he was married two Miss Pearl Landrum of Hunnewell in 1931.
Except for several years during his early married life which he spent on the police force in Kansas City he spent most of his life farming on the farm he owned north of town.
After moving to Shelbina he was associated with his son, Thomas, in business which he continued until his eyesight began to fail and he was forced to retire. A subsequent operation improved his vision for a short time, but not sufficiently for him to return to his former employment.
Mr. O'Brien had been in failing health for several years and recently suffered a stroke of paralysis. Again on Saturday, February 1, he suffered a second one from which he passed away at 4:00 AM Friday, February 7.
He is survived by his widow, one son, Thomas; two grandsons, Dr. Thomas O'Brien of Edina, and Bill O'Brien of Hannibal; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Charles of Hannibal, and David of California.
