Hoover McEachern CONCORD - Cora "Babe" Hoover McEachern died peacefully on Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at Eden Gardens of Concord. Mrs. McEachern was born on Aug. 21, 1917, in her home at 97 Grove St. in Concord. She was the daughter of the late Aubrey Ramseur Hoover and Cora Miller Lentz Hoover. Mrs. McEachern lived her entire life as a resident of Concord, was educated in its school system, and graduated from Concord High in 1935. She then attended Gunston Hall School in Washington, D.C., and later the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, where she continued her study and love of art. On April 25, 1944, she married David Ray McEachern, Jr. at St. James Lutheran Church. Her husband preceded her in death in April, 1997. As a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran, she taught Sunday school and Bible school classes. She was very active in WELCA serving as chairman of the Mary Circle for 20 years. In 2006, after 60 years of continuous membership and service, she was named an Elder of the church. Mrs. McEachern was a charter member of the Coltrane-Harris Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and a member of the Cabarrus Art Guild. Having rekindled her love of painting once her children were grown, she was awarded several prizes for her watercolor paintings in local art shows sponsored by this organization. She is survived by two sons, David Ray McEachern III and his wife, Elizabeth, of Concord and Peter H. McEachern and his wife, Page, of Matthews. Mrs. McEachern is also survived by her five grandchildren, David Ray McEachern IV and wife, Terry, Wendi McEachern Loden and husband, Gene, all of Concord, and William, Katherine, and Caroline McEachern, all of Matthews. She is also survived and forever loved by her five great-grandchildren, Shannon, Cody, Harley, Chase, and David Ray V. Her sister, Annie Louise Hoover Tollison; and her brothers, Aubrey Ramseur Hoover and Eugene Miller Hoover, preceded her in death. Mrs. McEachern's funeral service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church on Friday at 2 p.m. Internment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilkinson's Funeral Home of Concord. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to St. James Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 684, Concord, NC 28026 or to the charity of one's choice. Condolences may be left at www.wilkinsonfuneralhome.com
