Martha E. Ahearn

Martha E. Ahearn, of Wilmington, passed away on January 23, 2012 at the Millcroft Nursing Home after a long illness. She was 91 years old.

She was born in Glenn Lock, PA, a daughter of Chester C. and Doris Booker Hawkins, but spent most of her adult life in Delaware.

She worked as a waitress at both the Dandy Restaurant and Horn & Hardart Restaurants in Wilmington, and a cashier at Happy Harry's in Branmar Plaza for about 10 years. She mostly enjoyed being a homemaker - cooking and cleaning - she also loved tending her wood stove and fishing on weekends. She was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Duncan Road, Wilmington.

She is predeceased by her brother Chester Hawkins, and her sister Doris Madden. Martha was the wife of William Ahearn who died in 1977. Survivors include her brother, James E. Hawkins of Lake City, FL and her sons William Ahearn of Smyrna, Douglas and his wife Mary of Newark, and Gregory and his wife Lynda of Hockessin; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 4 nieces and 2 nephews.

The service will held at 11 am on Monday, January 30, at the CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, where friends may call from 10 to 11 am. Burial will be at St. Paul's Episcopal Cemetery in Exton, PA.
