HAMPTON - Buford 'Bud' Abbott Sr., 89, passed away Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009.

Bud was a native of Paint Bank, Va., and was a resident of Hampton for 67 years. Bud served in the Navy during the South Pacific conflict. He was a Lead General Foreman, in the sheet metal department with Newport News Shipbuilding and retired April 1, 1980, after 40 years of service. He was a charter member of New Hope Community Fellowship Church. He was a member of the Exchange Club of Wythe for 50 years and a member of the Mariner's Club.

Bud leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife of 67 years, Ruby Anne Oliver Abbott; nephews, Glenn Wesley Jones, Lewis Julian Jones, and Allen Bradley Jones; nieces, Donna Jones and Sarah Jean Wheeler; and many good and supportive relatives and friends.

He was preceded in rest by sons, Buford Wesley Abbott Jr. and Robert Earl Abbott; parents, Cora Bye Tingler Abbott and Aramandine Silas Abbott; brother, Fontaine Julian Abbott, and sister, Katheryn Blanche Abbott.


The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with a Celebration of Life service at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Bert Rait officiating. Interment will be at Parklawn Memorial Park, with a reception immediately following at The Crowne Plaza, 700 Settlers Landing Road, in Hampton.


Pallbearers will be members of the Wythe Exchange; Bob Moore, Willie Edwards, Kenneth Crocker, Tom Elwell, Doug Gray, Pete Peterson, Jim Thomas, and Bill Wade. Honorary pallbearers will be the remainder of the club.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Exchange Club of Wythe, c/o Robert Moore, 121 Whimbrel Dr., Hampton, VA 23435 or New Hope Community Fellowship Church, Building Fund, 1920 E. Pembroke Ave., Hampton, VA 23663. Flowers are also welcome.
Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666.
