"I was flying a/c no 972G, No 3 position in the third flight and saw Lt. Bruce drop out of formation to the right and to the rear. It appeared to be a deliberate movement. Lt. Bruce had control of his a/c. This took place within three minutes after making landfall at Cobourg (sic) (France). We had experienced intense accurate flak at landfall, however Lt.
