Major John de la Boularderie deTreville was born at Louisburg, Acadia. 1742. He may have been separated from the rest of his family when evacuated from Louisburg, aged 14, after 1758 during the expulsion of the Acadians by the British. He served as First Lieutenant of Grenadiers in the battalion of Otto, Marquart of Pentz in the British Legion during the Seven Years War in Europe. He was wounded at Battle of Vellinghausen, July 16, 1761. He was a cadet in the American Revolutionary forces by 1775, promoted to Lieutenant of Artillery in 1776 and Captain in 1777. He commanded the Continental Artillery contingent at the Battle of Port Royal in February 1779. He was wounded at the siege of Savannah in October 1779, and became a prisoner of war with the American surrender at Charleston in May 1780. He was included in the general exchange of prisoners of war in June 1781. He was promoted to Brevet Major in September 1783.
He wed Sarah Wilkinson December 27, 1778. They had two surviving children, son Robert L. born in 1782 and daughter Harriet, born in 1783.
He died at his plantation on Port Royal Island near Beaufort on January 26, 1791.
He was the father of Harriett L. DeTreville (1783-1818 Find A Grave Memorial# 83977639) who married first, January 6, 1801 in Beaufort, Robert Guerard (1775-1805) and married second, Samuel Lawrence (1781-1822). He was also the father of Robert LaBoularderie deTreville (1782-c1817) who married Sarah McKee Ellis (Findagrave Memorial 32127802) daughter of Richard Ellis, planter, also on January 6, 1801.
