Alta Alexander Smythers, 88, of 759 Smythers Mtn. Drive, Allisonia died Monday night Oct. 20, 2003 at her home. She was born on May 5, 1915 in Carroll County and was the daughter of the late Charles Alexander and Rebecca Myers Alexander. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Trent Smythers and by one grandson and four great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Farris Mines Christian Church.
Surviving are: her children and spouses, Daris and Dayna Smythers, Allisonia, Mrs. Russell (Freda) Watson, Allisonia, Olen and Sharon Smythers, Dublin, Curtis Wendell and Rochelle Smythers, Allisonia, Eugene and Cheryl Smythers, Dugspur; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers and spouses, Nathaniel and Evelyn Alexander, Kent, Ohio, Atchley and Jo Alexander, Graham, N. C., Claiborne and Shirley Alexander, Max Meadows, Larry and Vickie Alexander, Thomasville, N. C.; sisters and spouse, Lora Akers, Narrows, Nancy Harbin, Atlanta, Ga., Gretude Holston, Dublin, Gail and Bobby Dillon, Peterstown, W. Va.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from the Farris Mines Christian Church with Rev. Dennis Trail and Rev. Howard Bruce officiating. Burial will follow in the Farris Mines Cemetery, Allisonia. Visiting will be Wednesday evening from Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.
