John "Red John" Randolph Childers, 59, husband of Rachel Childers, died Saturday, at Baton Rough, Chester County, South Carolina, fowolling a brief illness.
Mr. Childers was born May 6, 1885 in York County, South Carolina, a son of Joseph Childers and Mary McDaniel Childers Millwood.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters, Mrs. Lucy Freeman of Greensboro, N.C., Mrs. Mary Shrader, Miss Fannie Mae Childers and Mrs. Ella Crocker all of Lockhart; six sons, Pvt. John Harry Childers of the U.S. Army stationed in Italy, Pvt. Luther Childers, stationed at Fort Bowie, Texas, Pfc. Mason Childers stationed in Hawaii, Seaman 1c Charlie Childers, where abouts unknown, Willie Childers of the U.S. Army, and Walter Childers of Lockhart. A brother, Henry Childers of Chester; a sister Martha Childers Foster, of Kings Mountain, N.C.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the Lockhart Freewill Baptist Church by the Rev. Ernie Rash and the Rev. Lloyd Revis. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Churchyard.
Pallbearers will be: Lee McSwain, Tom Smith, Albert Gregory, Frank Wade, Matthew Wright and "Babe" Petty.
The Edgar Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
