Mrs. Deaton was born May 19, 1932, in St. Clair, the daughter of Thomas Keys and wife Melissa Pearl, nee Neff.
On June 24, 1955, she was united in marriage to Ruben Jordan Deaton and they were blessed to have six children.
She is survived by her husband, Ruben Deaton, St. Clair; four sons, Ruben "Tate" Deaton, Pacific, Robert Joseph "Big Bob" Deaton and wife Laurel, Union, Ronald M. Deaton, St. Clair, and Robert Jordan "Robbie" Deaton and girlfriend Becky, Villa Ridge; two daughters, Cathy JoAnn McCollett, Kennebunk, Mass., and Amada Minks and husband Kenneth, Farmington; two sisters, Wilma "Wink" Schoenfeld, St. Clair, and Nellie Neece and husband James, Alton, Ill.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law; nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
Mrs. Deaton was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Monroe Keys; two sisters, Hilda Hudson and Katherine Newby; and one grandson, Kenneth Minks.
She was a Christian and member of Union Baptist Temple, Union. In younger years, she was employed at International Shoe Company, St. Clair.
Caring for her home and family was always her first priority. She enjoyed working outdoors and gardening and preserved the produce she raised.
In more recent years, she enjoyed collecting owl figurines and doing word search puzzles. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she cherished the time they shared.
A devoted and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great- and great-great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, with the Rev. Phil Hudson officiating.
Interment was in United Methodist Cemetery, St. Clair.
