Obituary SHARP Samuel P Sharp, son of Josiah (ed. Should read Joshua) and Mercy
Sharp, was born in Washington township, Randolph county, Ind., November 10, 1847, and died in West River township, Randolph county, January 19, 1891, aged 43 years, 2 months and 9 days. He was joined in marriage to Amanda Norman, March 3, 1870. To this union was born four children, three sons and one daughter. One son preceded him to the spirit land four years ago. Brother Sharp was a member on the probation list in the M. E. church for a number of years. When asked to be taken into full church connection he would reply that he did not think he was good enough for a member. He was not an active member in the church although he loved to see it in a prosperous condition. His neighbors did not realize that his condition was serious until the day before he died, although he said frequently during his illness that he would not survive, yet his physician felt confident that he would recover soon, but on the morning of the 18 he told him he could not live many hours. He sent for the writer of this brief notice the morning of his death and on my arrival informed me that it was his last day on earth, and that he was fully prepared for the change which was to soon come. He
requested me to sing and pray with him, as he never could sing yet he loved to hear singing. Word of his expected death spread through the community and many neighbors and friends called during the day and he bid them all good by,
requesting them to meet him in heaven. He remained perfectly rational to the last and died a tranquil death, saying he had left his family in the hands of
the Lord. He leaves a wife, two sons and one daughter to mourn the loss of a husband and father, and relatives and friends will mourn their loss, knowing, however, that their loss is his eternal gain, for he died believing in him who said, "I am the resurrection and the life, he who believeth, though he were dead, yet shall live again."
