Death of Former Knightstown Lady
On Thursday morning last Mrs. Ruby Carroll Franklin, age 43 years, wife of Rev. Benjamin Franklin, of Decatur, Ind., died of spinal meningitis at a hospital in Fort Wayne. She had been sick only a few days, resulting from a severe gathering in the head. The deceased was the daughter of Will and Monta Newby Carroll, of Shirley. Mrs. Franklin was born in Knightstown, January 11, 1889. Ten years ago Rev. Franklin and wife resided for two years at Willow Branch, where he presided as pastor of the M. E. Church. Since that time Mr. Franklin and wife had resided at Muncie and Decatur. Mrs. Carroll, mother of Mrs. Franklin, has been sick and bedfast for five weeks at her home in Shirley.
Mrs. Franklin's surviving relatives are the husband, the parents, and four children - Elizabeth, 16 years; Benjamin Junior, 12 years; Kathryn, 10 years, and Mary Jean, 6 years old; six brothers and sisters - Mrs. Otto May of Anderson, Mrs. Wayne Edmundson and Russell Carroll of Indianapolis, Mrs. Dale Dugan of Red Key, Loren and Miss Lois Carroll of Shirley, also L. P. Newby, an uncle, and other relatives of this city.
Funeral services for this greatly esteemed woman were held Saturday at Decatur. The casket was brought to Shirley and there opened for view by the sick mother. Burial followed in Glencove cemetery, this city.
