Ray Knowles Kelley, a resident of County Road 22, Headland, died Monday, October 3, 2011, at his home. He was 55. A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Birmingham, Alabama, with Dr. Roger Lovette officiating. Mr. Kelley was born and reared in the Pleasant Plains community of Houston County, son of the late James Rayford (Jack) Kelley and Annie Jean Knowles Kelley. He was a graduate of Houston County High School in Columbia and also Auburn University. Mr. Kelley lived most of his adult lifetime in Birmingham before returning to Houston County. He was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip James Kelley. Surviving relatives include nieces, Emily Kelley Pennington and husband, Tim; and Amy Kelley McKinney and husband, Danny, all of Birmingham, AL; a great-niece, Sadie Elizabeth Pennington; two great-nephews, Timothy Michael Pennington, Jr. and Matthew James Pennington; cousins, Sharon Speer Gerogiannis and husband, Nick; Alex Gerogiannis and wife, Lauren, all of Birmingham, AL; and Christina Gerogiannis and wife, Erika, Boston, MA; a sister-in-law, Donna Kelley Klabnik and husband, Tony, Anniston, AL Holman-Headland Mortuary, (334) 693-3371, is in charge of arrangements.
