Old-Time Engineer Passes From Earth
George Heckler, who was an engineer on the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago railroad in early days, died at 1:45 o'clock this afternoon at his home, 916 Union street, at the age of 67 years, 11 months, and 23 days. Death was due to Bright's disease.
Mr. Heckler had been retired for twenty-five years. He was born in Germany, but came to America as a young man and located in Fort Wayne in 1858. From this date until 1869 he was a railroad engineer, then was employed as a stationary engineer in the Fox cracker factory and later engaged in the grocery business at Main and Harrison streets.
Surviving relatives include the widow and three sons-- Charles, Albert and Edward Heckler, all of this city.
