GALVESTON - Memorial services for John Robert Armstrong of Humble, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 26, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston. There are no other services.

Mr. Armstrong, 62, died Thursday, March 22, 2001 at North East Medical Center in Humble. He was born July 8, 1938, in Tucson.

He attended public school in Tonkawa and Ponca City, Okla., and Hobbs, where he excelled on the tennis team. Mr. Armstrong served in the U.S. Army. He worked in Hobbs, Houston and various cities in Oklahoma as an automobile dealer and as an independent building contractor.

Mr. Armstrong is survived by his stepmother, Wilma Armstrong of Hobbs; his son, John Dirk Armstrong; three daughters, Glenna Ruth Chance of Humble, Demita Lynn Winegartner of Tecumseh, Okla. Also by Kelly Jean Strange of San Angelo; two brothers, Jerry Armstrong of Sacramento, Calif., and Jack Armstrong of Hobbs; two sisters, JoBeth Desoto of Hobbs and Judy McDonald of Indianapolis; several daughters-in-law and sons-in-law; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Armstrong was preceded in death by his mother, Ermille Lorraine Brookhart Armstrong; his father, John Henry Armstrong; his aunt, Ruth Brookhart McGuckin and her brother, Robert Brookhart; and life-long friend, Joy Knott of Hobbs.
