Jacob Groninger was born to Leonard and Barbara May Groninger 1797. Nancy Hench the daughter of Jacob and Susan Rice Hench born on September 18,1794 became Jacob's wife on May 25, 1819. They had eight children; Mary Ann, Elizabeth G, Barbara, John, Leonard S., Jacob, Orin L. and Henry M. Groninger.

Nancy Groninger died on November 25, 1831 and the next year Jacob married Sidney Wilson daughter of Richard and Catherine Strouse Wilson who was born on March 1, 1814. Sidney and Jacob produced nine children for a total of seventeen, eleven sons and 6 daughters. The children were: Hannah Jane, Richard Wilson, Samuel A., William H., Benjamin Creamer, Euphemia C., James N. and Matilda.

Sidney died on July 3, 1891, while Jacob died the next month, having lived for 94 years, 5 months and 20 days. Prior to his passing on August 26, 1891 Jacob was the oldest person in Juniata County.
