Hampton Funeral Service Obituary:
Dr. Ager Lee Vanderburg, age 87, of Appalachian Brian Estates, Boone, went to his heavenly home Sunday afternoon, January 22, 2012, at Watauga Medical Center.
Dr. Vanderburg was born September 25, 1924 in Kannapolis, North Carolina, the son of the late Harvey Walter Vanderburg and Hattie Ashby Vanderburg Benge. He was a retired minister of the Wesleyan faith.
Dr. Vanderburg is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jeanie Guest Vanderburg; two daughters, Maxine Edmisten and husband Harold of Boone, and Joy Bass of Concord; four grandsons, Harold W. Edmisten of Charlotte, Derek Edmisten of Cary, Joel Padgett and wife Tracy of Charlotte, and Staff Sargeant Justin Bass and wife Jessica of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina; four great-grandchildren, Jonas, Jace, and Jake Padgett, and Jaxon Bass, and one sister, Geraldine Berkholz. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Vanderburg.
Funeral services for Dr. Ager Lee Vanderburg will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, January 25, 2012, at 2:00 o'clock, at Boone Advent Christian Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 12:30 until 2:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Reverend Gordon Noble and Reverend Rick Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 12:30 until 2:00 o'clock at the church prior to the service. At other times friends may call at the home of a daughter, Maxine Edmisten, 103 Kellwood Drive, Boone.
Flowers are appreciated, or memorial contributions may be made to the Shepherd Builders Fund, in care of Joyce Sherrill, 413 Shady Bark Lane, Boone, North Carolina, 28607.
