Architect. Son of Louis and Anna Caroline Koehler Klauder, who emigrated to the United States from Germany while in their youth. Author of College Architecture in America and its Part in the Development of the Campus (1929). Primarily involved with university campus development and worked on buildings and plans at Princeton University, the University of Pittsburg, Brown University, Cornell University, University of Denver, University of Chicago, Vanderbilt University, Yale University and others. Klauder was also the architect of Concordia Seminary,St. Louis. Prehaps his crowning achievement was the development of master plan and building design for the University of Colorado at Boulder, which has been described as Italianate classical, also refered to as 'Rural Italian Renaissance' architecture ('The University of Colorado Style'), partially based on building design from Tuscany villages and Florentine detailing. His design utilizied native Colorado sandstone and red tile roofing, and featured white limestone trim on arched entranceways,, chiminey like towers, integrated benches, and cartouches.
