LAWRENCE C. GASE
Lawrence C. Gase, 82, 123 N. Fifth St., died at 5:50 a.m. today in Lakeside Manor, Decatur, after a lengthy illness.
He was born on April 9, 1908 in Decatur to George and Johanna Bogner Gase and married Helen M. Staub on June 5, 1937; she survives.
He retired in 1968 after a 40-year career as a tool maker at the General Electric Co. plant in Fort Wayne. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society and Harvest House. He also was a life member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and a member of GE's Quarter-Century Club.
Other survivors are four daughters: Mrs. Don (Joan M.) Moser, Ossian; Mrs. Charles (Susan C.) Schaffter, Berne; Mrs. Kirk (Georgiana M.) Wilson, Rockford, Ohio; and Mrs. James (Jane F.) Selking, route 6, Decatur; two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Mary) Beckmeyer, route 3, Decatur and Mrs. Frank (Agnes) Rindler, Burkettsville, Ohio; and 15 grandchildren. Eight brothers, one sister and one grandson are deceased.
A prayer service will be held at 9:40 a.m. Saturday in Zwick-Sefton and Jahn Funeral Home, followed by funeral services at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church, Father Robert J. Dembrowski officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Due to observance of Holy Week, a memorial mass will be held later.
Visiting hours at the funeral home are 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, and there will be a rosary service at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Preferred memorials are to St. Mary's Parish Improvement Fund.
