Robert Thomas Huggins was the son of Rev. John Samuel Huggins and Zilphia Ham Huggins. He was the husband of Mary Stone Huggins.

Robert Thomas Huggins was a blacksmith, gunsmith and farmer and was noted for several inventions, the most successful one being the "Huggins Plow". He was also one of the organizers and founders of the Old Johnsonville Methodist Church in 1872.

An excerpt from an obituary in The County Record Nov 10, 1910 reads: Mr. Huggins was a man of above average intelligence, a first rate man and a good citizen, He has given to the world some good ideas in the field of invention, the most successful being the "Huggins Plow". His father was the inventor of the Huggins cotton planter."
