Florence G. Burge, age 85, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past nine years, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2001.
Florence came to New Mexico from Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Florence graduated from Mocksville High School in 1934 in Mocksville, North Carolina. Florence was a devout Christian and attended First Methodist Church and Green Street United Methodist Churches in Winston-Salem, NC before moving to Rio Rancho, NM where she was a member of Rio Rancho United Methodist Church.
Her bright and loving spirit and beautiful smile will be remembered by all who met her. Florence was a loving and compassionate mother, mother-in-law and grandmother and she will be greatly missed.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, James Noble Burge in 1970 and one son, Royce A. Burge in 1997.
Florence is survived by her son, Robert "Bob" E. Burge and his wife, Mary of Bound Brook, NJ and her daughter, Carol A. (Burge) Vernon and her husband, Ed of Rio Rancho, NM, sister, Martha Zellner and her husband, Jack of Asheville, NC, brother, James Graves and his wife, MaryAnn of Alexandria, VA, grandchildren, Cage, Dagny, and Dayna Vernon of Rio Rancho, NM and Chad Whipple and his fiance, Tonya Spencer and Shane Burge, all of Indiana, great-grandchild, Kayla Spencer and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Florence will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho with The Rev. Gregg Armstrong and Rev. Mark Conkling officiating. Interment will follow in Vista Verde Memorial Park. Those who wish may gather at the family home following the services.
Memorials may be made to the Rio Rancho United Methodist Church either to the Capital/Building Fund or to the Youth Group as she has three grandchildren in this group, or to the Grace Community Church of Bridgewater, NJ, same funds.
