Gerald served in the navy then met June Geraldine Mitchell and married in Memphis in 1953.Two sons, Kenny(1954) and Victor(1957)were born.He and his wife opened Vaughan Furniture in 1962 which she and the boys still run. Gerald had cancer and died at the age of 43 in 1975 at Vetreans Hospital in Memphis.
