====================================================

Note: 1880 census shows Richard Lucky, and 2 sisters living with him, in McLennan Co TX; M E Renfro and M A Wells, and a 5yrs old son of M A, J M Wells. M E = Margaret E, M A = Mary Alice, Middleton's 1860 shows RICH where Stephen should be, I believe Stephen W is Richard Luckie, unless they are twins? The ages of the 1880; Richard, ME, MA, are perfect matches to Middleton's 1850, 60 & 70 census.

A decendant of Middleton, and 2nd wife Disa, claims that Middleton was killed by Highwaymen while on his way to Waco TX, from his home, in 1875, in McLennan Co TX. Just a side note, his daughter, Fanny died Oct 1875, I wonder if she was involved in this incident that took her fathers life? Some suspect, Middleton is also buried at the same cemetery as his 2nd wife, Disa, and daughter Fanny...

Middleton is listed on the GLO records as: M. W., & Middleton, Lucky, Luckey, Lukey

What Houston County Land records reveal for Levi:

2. He was granted 640 acres from Houston Co TX,
Jan 11, 1840, a conditional Certificate.
Oct 12, 1846, Certificate became unconditional.
Witnesses were: A E Gossett, and C H Randolphy.

**Note: about the 1850 census
Census taker made a mistake Listing Lavina as Levi, which is her brother next door.
I have arranged the census in the correct correct order, this family was in the 1860
in McLennan Co TX, you will understand once you look at that census. The age 34
of Levina fits perfectly she was born in 1816 GA. Lavina had 10 Known children.

DESCENDANT STORY: (Burial Information in letter)

By Mr. R. Hilliard
Middleton Luckie was his 2xGr Grandfather:

I have a large (approx 15" by 30") 'photo' circa 1870 of M W (Middleton W)
Luckie that was passed to me by my great-aunt. M W was my
great-great-grandfather and moved to Texas from Mississippi via Alabama. He was
listed in the Houston County (Crockett) census in 1840 as having arrived in, I
believe, 1834 or 1836. His dob was listed as 1810. He was apparently living with
a relative. He later moved to McLennan County (Waco) near Hubbard. From what I
have found, he was married twice. I believe he had sons from his first marriage
killed in the War but do not know what happened to his first wife, or if she
died before or after he arrived in Texas. He and his second (apparently) wife
are buried in an old, unkempt cemetery just outside Hubbard. I took my
grandfather to Hubbard to speak with his cousin in 1992. She took us to the
cemetery. M W's second wife, was a Killough and this cousin was from that side
of the family. I have no information on his first wife (who must have been your
Lavina). I have discovered that my Luckies came to Alabama from Georgia and,
before that, Virginia.

M W's son, Thomas Henderson Luckie, was my great-grandfather. M W was murdered
by highwaymen in 1875 while en route to Waco from his home. Thomas (born 1865)
remained at home in McLennan County until 1878 when, if I remember correctly, an
uncle came to live there and assist his mother with the farm. Thomas then went
to Comanche County. He made his living farming as well as buying/selling horses
and mules. He made yearly trips back to East Texas for that purpose and met and
courted my great-grandmother in Freestone County. They married in 1889 and lived
in Comanche County. My grandfather was the youngest of their sons and retained
the family farm until 1968 when he moved to town (Comanche). Thomas Henderson
Luckie (M W's son), his wife (Edna Earle Jones Luckie), and two of their sons
(including my grandfather) are buried in Newburg Cemetery in Comanche County.

Sincerely,
R S Hilliard

**Note:
Notes from Mike: [Update to above]
Texas had no census in 1840, (TX was not yet a State) MW Lucky's grant of 640 acres was for his immigration to Texas 1838. The reason he was able to receive the 640 acres of land.
