CHANUTE BLADE, JUNE 12, 1879
Mrs. John Carter died at her home in this city last Thursday and was buried on Saturday. She was followed to her long resting place by a large concourse of people. Thus we must all go, father, mother, sister, brother and break loving ties that bind loving friends and families together. One day you may be apparently well and hearty and the next day be laid in your tomb to await the final judgment. "Man born of woman is of few days and full of trouble". This scripture is as true as the Bible that utters it, and every day witnesses some household bereaved by the death of a near and dear friend. A mother is the nearest and dearest friend one has on earth. Her heartstrings yearn for her family and her beautiful face seems to bind all the family together in ties of love. The bereaved family who but a few short days ago enjoyed a mother's dear smiles--but who has gone the way of all mortals--have the sincere sympathies of the entire community. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. R. S. Johnson.
