Pete Robert Alkire, a staff sergeant with the Infantry, was awarded the Croix de Guerre with a palm, the American Defense ribbon, the European Theater ribbon with a bronze arrowhead and eight battle stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Purple Heart. Alkire saw action in the following areas: Naples-Foggia, Southern France, Rome-Arno, the Rhineland, Central Europe, Algeria, French Morocco, Tunisia, and Sicily. He entered the Army in June, 1941. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Alkire.
