NEWTON, Jan. 25.—The Methodist church was filled capacity for the funeral service of Robert Lee Seagle, 56, Spanish American war veteran, Friday afternoon. Many friends and relatives from Newton, Conover, Hickory and the surrounding communities attended.
The service was conducted by Rev. W. M. Smith, pastor of the church, affected by Rev. J. R. Armbrust, of Hickory. Active Pallbearers were members of the Masonic lodge of Hickory, Shriners of this section and Spanish American war veterans of the C. M. McCorkle camp were honorary pallbearers.
Following the service here the body was taken for burial in Oakwood Cemetery. A Masonic burial service was conducted by the Hickory Masonic lodge. The grave was covered with a blanket of beautiful flowers. tributes to the deceased.
Mr. Seagle died Wednesday night at his home northeast Newton following a few days' illness. He is survived by his wife, who was the former Miss Blanche Lineberger, four children, C. W. Seagle, Lincolnton; Mrs. J. A. Stratton, Hickory; Herman and Helen Seagle. of Conover; [unreadable] mother, Mrs. R. B. Cline, Kingsport, Tenn.; one sister, Mrs. F. A. Lackey, Newton; and two brothers. A. C. Seagle. Burgetttown. Pa., and D. H. Seagle, Kingsport, Tenn.
The deceased was a Shriner and widely known citizen. He was a devout member of the Newton Methodist church.
