The last rites of Mrs.
Marien E. Knapp, of Denmark, were
held in the Union church of that village Wednesday afternoon at 3:30,
July 20th. Mrs. Knapp was born on
what was known as the Loomis farm,
a short distance north of Denmark,
April 24, 1862, the daughter of Orrin
and Eliza Townsand Dunham. Two
years later the family moved to the
Dunham house in Denmark, where she
resided to the time of her death, July
17, 1927. On September 8, 1881, she
was united in marriage to J. E. Knapp,
of Denmark. To this union one child
was born, a son, Harold.
Mrs. Knapp was a very capable woman,
always making good use of her
splendid ability, contributing to every
worthy cause according to her means
and strength. For many years she
was active in Grange work, being lecturer
of the Denmark Grange for several years, filling that office very efficiently
and she held the office of Ceres
in the State Grange two years. She
also served as chairman of the woman's
work committee a term of two
years. For the past twenty years
Mrs. Knapp, with her husband, conducted
a store at Denmark, in which
she took a very active part until failing
health compelled her to retire
from business. She was a great sufferer
during the last years of her life,
bearing the burden very patiently. Her
husband and granddaughter and near
neighbors cared for her in her illness
very tenderly to the last.
In the passing of Mrs. Knapp the
community loses a highly respected
and lifelong resident. The large number
of beautiful floral pieces that came
from a wide circle of relatives, neighbors
and acquaintances spoke of the
high esteem in which she was held
She is survived by her husband;

Dunham, who resides at the homestead;
